Based on the bestselling novel by Patrick Süskind, “Perfume” is a story of murder and obsession set in 18th-century France. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille has a unique talent for discerning the scents and smells that swirl around him, which he uses to create the world’s finest perfumes. Strangely lacking any scent of his own, he becomes obsessed with capturing the irresistible but elusive aroma of young womanhood. As Grenouille’s obsession turns deadly, twelve young girls are found murdered. Panic breaks out as people rush to protect their daughters, while an unrepentant and unrelenting Grenouille still lacks the final ingredient to complete his quest.

It’s all about the art of smell.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is based on the Patrick Süskind novel Perfume, the plot tells the story of the misanthropic, psychopathic, olfactory genius Grenouille and his homicidal quest for the perfect scent, ending in his macabre death engineered by his own masterly powers of influencing people through scents.
Personally I think Perfume is a real nice Art Work even if the movie got a lot of cruel criticisms. It can be a very absurd story and the climax seems to be a little funny. On the other hand, the story could be quite understandable if you are really absorbed into the movie itself. Also a lot of people say the book is more exciting. It’s true. However, in my opinion, the movie has its own attractions, the feeling of sense watching color and listening sound which move our sensibilities. Especially I really like the set in the colorful background of 18th century France. It’s quite realistic, but beautifully attractive :-). The music also quite charming. There are many parts that I like in this movie, but it can’t be expressed in words. I love this movie as it is one of my favorite movies.
The story is brillient.
A good storyline is based on a brilliant novel, good acting and a mostly gripping atmosphere. The viewer had to sink into in order to attempt to understand the story, otherwise you would feel it’s kind of bull shit. Don’t be too logical, and just feel this movie as itself.
It depicts a fantastic 18th century France.
The first shot of the movie takes you back to the middle age of France. The pale and skinny boy is the murderer. The first five to ten minutes of the movie is kind of disgusting but ridiculously real! Every shot, every scene is all about smell. We smell the world of he was born. We could smell the mouse, the mud, and the fish. The picture is antique, deep and dazzling. The upper class people wear luxury clothes and jewelries, but that kind of luxury only belongs to that age.
The music was mesmerizing, beautiful and sad.
The use of music conjures up a world that becomes more and more convincing as the film unfolds. The music is a wonderful compliment.
All casts were doing great jobs for their roles!
Ben Whishaw , as Jean Baptist Grenouille, the murderer, and the central character of this awesome movie , is simply terrific, with his firm conviction, and weird, chilling, psychotic devotion, to create the most extra ordinary perfume in the whole world, out of the very virgin, beautiful bodies of young girls! The Mr.Hoffmen and Mr.Rickman also complement the plot with there typical greatness. Mr.Hoffmen portrays a astounding fallen master and tutor. Mr.Rickman plays a bone chillingly striking loving and desperate father.
This beautiful movie is recommended to everyone who likes to watch arty movie.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who would enjoy the idea of a psychological young man who you can actually feel with, one that you can share his pain and his goals of reaching that perfect scent that will make him something, that will give him an existence for living. Many people would say some books should remain as books. I agree with that. But we could also feel something different attraction from movies like colors and sound.
This movie has very strange mesmerization that makes me want to watch again and again.

When it comes to bad movies, Paris Hilton is just an amateur, writes Joe Queenan.
THE release in the United States of Paris Hilton's The Hottie And The Nottie has revived the debate over the worst movie ever made. Because the film logged some of the worst receipts in history - $US250 ($273) per screen on opening weekend - there is a temptation to accord it the mythical status of such universally ridiculed films as Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes or Plan 9 From Outer Space, to welcome it into the dark, Bizarro World pantheon inhabited by phantasmagoric disasters such as Showgirls, Ishtar, Heaven's Gate, Battlefield Earth, The Postman and, most recently, Gigli and Swept Away.
So you always wanted to go to an opera but didn't think you could afford it? Here's an opportunity you may want to consider. Especially since it's as easy as going to a movie.
This weekend, San Francisco Opera will launch the first of six digital cinema presentations with a production of Puccini's rarely-heard "La Rondine" ("The Swallow"), starring superstar soprano Angela Gheorghiu. Like New York's Metropolitan Opera and Italy's La Scala, the San Francisco company sees screenings as a way to expand its audience.
Madonna's movie going straight to the net
Madonna is to release her directorial debut Filth and Wisdom straight onto the Internet--because she doesn't want to rely on her pop superstardom to make her filmmaking career a success.
Banned 'Rambo' a hot commodity in Myanmar
Police in military-run Myanmar have banned DVD vendors from selling the new "Rambo" film about a Vietnam war veteran fighting the junta's soldiers, but that hasn't stopped people from trying to buy it.
Juno, Michael Clayton Among Top Oscar Nominees
Clooney is up for Best Actor for Michael Clayton, which was also nominated for its direction, screenplay and as Best Picture. Juno, meanwhile, is the little picture that could. The comedy about a pregnant teen scored a Best Actress nod for Page and is also in the running for top film, director and script.

the movie was decently well made in general, the character building and story moves along. Perfume says a lot about human nature at least.
I agree. Especially I like the background of 18th century France. It’s so colorful and realistic!
