Oscar Nominees Announced

The 80th Annual Academy Award Nominees were announced by Academy president Sid Ganis and Oscar winner Kathy Bates. You can find the complete list of nominees on Oscar.

Hollywood is in a bleak mood this year, and the Oscar nominees announced Tuesday morning reflected that state of mind. Awards heavyweights “No Country for Old Men” and “There Will Be Blood” lead the way with eight nominations each, including Best Picture and “Atonement” and “Michael Clayton” received seven apiece. That means that in a year in which no clear frontrunner for Oscar supremacy had previously emerged, none did today either.

Not that it will matter, if the writers strike bleeds into the Feb. 24 telecast. Because if that happens, only one thing about the Academy Awards is certain:

There will be fallout.

The rushed and tepid Golden Globes “ceremony” was a sure sign that the Oscars presentation could be in trouble, too.

The Oscars are looking a bit grim this year and not only because of the ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood, but also because of uncertain result of Nominees selections.

Many says it’s a big surprise that Cate Blanchett received a best actress nomination for “Elizabeth, but “A Mighty Heart” snubbed. Also, we never thought it’d be possible, but we may now introduce Norbit as “the Oscar-nominated Norbit.”

You can find more missing outs on Hollywood.

Noticeably Lucasfilm nets six technical Academy Award nominations on both Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

Besides all words, “The 80th Academy Awards” will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theater at Hollywood & Highland, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST, preceded by a half-hour arrival segment.
