“Eastern Promises” brings you a perfect accompaniment of David Cronenberg’s “A History Of Violence”. Russian mobsters, murky London, brutal, savage and violence make this movie very realistic and take your breath away. However, besides the exploiting blood and gore, this movie is actually telling you a morality tale and what’s happening every day to post soviet girls. You will open your eyes by surprising of human trafficking that would didn’t even know existed and it gives us an enormous impact.

The characters is relevantly well written and well played by the actors. Especially when Nikolai (Viggo Mortensen) was attacked by two of mobsters in the public spa, he was not just like our friendly neighborhood super heroes. He was stabbed ruthlessly and should dig his fingers into their eyes to survive from the death. Sometimes, however, the characters is ambiguous due to the lack of combination between good and dark side.

I was wondering if I was brave enough to stand against the group of gang members as what Anna (Naomi Watts) did in this movie. I remember what Nikolai said. “Stay away from people like me”.

Deeply haunting, subtly powerful and magnetic music well presents and makes this an incredible movie experience. As this movie was nominated for Best Picture of Golden Globes, the picture gives a perfect psychological gravities to the movie as well as absorb you into the movie.

As this movie is not focusing on meaningless gang war violence, it promises more than it delivers. “Eastern Promises” is a beautiful and excellent film you must watch.
